Port News: New forklifts boost efficiency and safety at Inland Ports

CityDepot and MidlandPort get new container handling equipment

CityDepot and MidlandPort, the two Inland Ports operated by Lyttelton Port Company, have recently received new container handling equipment to enhance their productivity and environmental performance.

The new machines are part of a larger order for five Hyster forklifts designed to handle empty and full containers.

Drivers prefer Hyster Machines.

CityDepot Manager Steve Hughes says the drivers who operate the new forklifts prefer them.

“The Hyster machines are the ones that our drivers like the most, and they have a range of features that make them safer and more comfortable.

They also use less fuel than the older machines we have, which reduces our carbon footprint and operational costs,” he said.

New machines undergo commissioning.

The new machines are undergoing a thorough inspection and testing process by the Mechanical Maintenance and Safety Teams before they are ready to work.

Hughes said he expected the new forklifts to be operational in the next few weeks.

“These new machines will provide us more flexibility and reliability in our Inland Ports operations. They will help us to meet the growing demand for container handling services in the Canterbury region,” he said.
