Cruising into Lyttelton

Nau Mai Haere Mai, welcome to Lyttelton, your gateway port to Canterbury.

Our cruise berth

In mid-October 2024, LPC will welcome the first cruise ship for the 2024/2025 season. Lyttelton cruise berth is New Zealand’s first-ever purpose-built cruise ship facility. At 148 metres long, the new berth can cater to the world’s largest cruise vessels, which are up to 362m long and carry up to 6,000 passengers and 2,000 crew.

Shoreside amenities on the cruise berth include a shelter for those awaiting coach transfers to pre-booked excursions and shuttles and an amenities building.

More to discover

Planning your visit to Lyttelton, Christchurch and the wider Canterbury Region?

Lyttelton, the oldest settlement on Banks Peninsula, has a variety of shops and cafés to discover and is just a 20-minute drive from Christchurch.

On cruise ship days, dedicated shuttles will run from the berth to Lyttelton and Christchurch. There is no walk-off access from the cruise berth.

For great views of the harbour, your cruise ship and maybe the chance to spot our resident Hector’s dolphins, take a ferry trip across to Diamond Harbour. Diamond Harbour is one of the sunniest seaside villages on Banks Peninsula with walks for all abilities and cafés offering delicious food and coffee.

For more information on Lyttelton, visit the Lyttelton Information Centre.

For more information on what to do in and around Christchurch visit ChristchurchNZ.

For an up-to-date schedule, please visit portcontrol.lpc.co.nz and select the ‘cruise’ tab on the left of the page. The arrival time is when we expect the vessel to arrive alongside the berth, and this time is updated approximately 24 hours prior to arrival. Unfortunately, there are a number of factors out of our control that may delay/impact the arrival of a cruise vessel and the subsequent transfer of passengers, so the times published are to be used as a guide.

Please allow approximately 1 hour for the first passengers to begin disembarking and be transported off the port.
