Development: Dry Dock Upgrading Safety Systems

LPC is undertaking a significant upgrade of the Dry Dock to improve the safety of dock users and ship crew. The project will involve installing new systems to prevent falls from height, such as safety lines and compliant stairs. The upgrade will also minimise the impact on the heritage asset by using ground anchors to support safety systems.

The Dry Dock will be closed for regular ship repairs for approximately two months, from 13 June to 6 August. During this period, LPC’s contractors will work inside the dock, specifically on the altars.

Project Manager Hannah Fyffe said the design process has been a collaborative effort between LPC, contractors and suppliers, and the design team.

“Our design team, led by WSP with support from Tetra Tech Coffey, have  have worked closely with Groundfix, Total Height Safety and Monkeytoe, who are providing the ground anchor, fixed safety line, and stair and chute bridge systems respectively.”

“All the new systems integrate with the headplate, which is designed to be large enough to take the fixtures, deep enough to avoid snagging, and appealing to heritage agencies,” she said.

The work will take place from Monday to Sunday, 7:30 am to 6:00 pm and be completed in August.
