As part of LPCs continued efforts to minimise effects of construction works on marine mammals, two LPC staff and three of the Cruise Berth Contractors recently completed a Department of Conservation recognised Marine Mammal Observer Training course.
This intensive 3-day course, run by Blue Planet Marine, included theoretical and practical elements, designed to ensure participants understand the relevant regulations and are effective marine mammal observers.
This is in line with our Marine Mammal Management Plan, which sets out how Lyttelton Port Company and the contractor involved will manage potential noise effects on marine mammals, particularly Hector’s Dolphins.
If you have any questions, comments, or wish to speak to us regarding the piling, please contact LPC’s Environmental Advisor for the project Jared Pettersson at Jared.Pettersson@lpc.co.nz.
The LPC staff and contractors passed the course with flying colours.
