Port News: LPC leads New Zealand business with first Nature-related Disclosures Report

LPC is proud to announce the release of the first Nature-related Disclosures Report for any business in New Zealand.

Our nature-disclosures report, published today, marks our first attempt to quantify our impacts and dependencies on nature. The report also assesses the risk of nature loss and identifies opportunities for addressing these issues.

Our journey takes us back to 1875, when the then Harbour Board was established, to evaluate the impact our activities have on nature over time.

This report provides a foundation for understanding where we need to focus to avoid further loss of nature and work towards improving the state of nature.

Port business activities mapped for assessment of impacts on habitats. The inset map shows the wider extent of activities
within Whakaraupō/Lyttelton Harbour and into Pegasus Bay. The main map provides a more detailed view including the broad activity
categorisation.

LPC rely on the dilution of stormwater to maintain a healthy harbour, fresh water for drinking and dust suppression, and the provision of timber, fuel, rock, and rubber to continue our operations.

A healthy and functioning surrounding environment is crucial for maintaining our consents to operate and our social licence.

Since 2019, LPC has had a biodiversity-positive ambition and is committed to actions that contribute to a healthy harbour through the Whaka-Ora partnership. Our restoration activities at the Port Saddle and Gollans Bay, pest management and biosecurity work, and stormwater treatment efforts all reduce our impact on nature.
