Environment: Recycling PPE into useful materials

In October, LPC partnered with Workwear Recycled, a company dedicated to transforming our old PPE into innovative and useful products.

This initiative marks a significant milestone, given the challenges associated with recycling PPE, especially when it is covered in grease and other substances. High viz vests, jackets and other textiles can be shredded and recycled into items such as signage and furniture blankets. Our helmets are made of high-quality plastic which can be melted down and made into products including durable bench tops.

LPC Environment and Sustainability Advisor Charlotte Jones says PPE can be repurposed rather than ending up in landfills.

“While it’s difficult to estimate the exact volume of PPE we’ll recycle initially, we’ve already gathered about 50 helmets.

“As more PPE reaches the end of its life cycle, we’ll continue to gauge and increase our recycling efforts,” Charlotte said.
